BitTorrent is one of the most popular methods for users to "share" movies, music, television shows, and digital books online. It enables fast downloads of large files by gathering small pieces of the file from multiple users at the same time. While the technology itself is technically legal, some of its uses are not. Many view BitTorrent as an evolution from older file sharing programs such as Napster and Kazaa in an attempt to stay one step ahead of the copyright laws. However, since 2004, several BitTorrent indexing sites have come under severe legal scrutiny. Hollywood movie studios have started aggressively defending their interests and they recently won an important decision against one of the biggest BitTorrent sites on the web, isoHunt.
