Last year, I put together rankings of the top solar power countries per capita, per GDP, and per TWh of electricity production. In January, I then created rankings of the top solar power states per capita and followed those up with rankings of the top solar power states per capita vs the top solar power countries per capita. Check out those previous rankings and some similar wind power rankings via the links on the bottom of this page.Recent ...

SOLAR - Stress Testing Solar PV Growth Forecasts

I spent most of my weekend trying to understand the logic (or lack thereof) supporting the two line charts included below. Those charts predict a very different future for distributed generation in the eastern United States than I had imagined. Navigant Research, an energy consulting firm, created the charts as part of a broader assessment of demand-side resources within the Eastern Interconnection, which encompasses 39 U.S. states, New Orleans and the District of Columbia.

This post originally appeared on ILSR's Energy Self-Reliant States blog.Just north of Delavan, Wisconsin, is Dan Osborne's nursery farm. Where you once found a bean field now sit 80 solar panels on 100 tracking towers, generating renewable power for over 125 homes. It's a small, but successful community-owned energy harvest. The solar farm was developed by Convergence Energy of Lake Geneva, WI and has owners from all around the region. In an ...

Inverters are the silent workhorses that convert power from devices like solar panels and batteries into usable power. There's been considerable innovation around solar panel inverters in recent years, as some solar roofs have started moving from a single large central inverter to smaller "microinverters" embedded on each panel. But now year-and-a-half-old chip startup Empower Micro Systems has been pushing that solar inverter innovation even far ...
